As a coach who has had the privilege of working with numerous incredible individuals over the past 15+ years, I can confidently say that no one has been as inspirational as my remarkable youngest client ever, Hanalei Swan.

I know you are not supposed to have a favorite client, let alone say it out loud - or even worst, plaster it all over the internet for the world to see, but I can’t deny it, Hanalei is that client.

I first had the opportunity to meet Hanalei face-to-face when she was just 8 years old, though I had been following her incredible journey since she was only 5 or 6 years old through her family's YouTube channel, Unstoppable Family.

I have vivid memories of the day we first met. Rhonda Swan, Hanalei's mom, invited me for a drink during my brief visit to Bali, and Hanalei and I immediately connected. Despite the 24-year age difference between us, it felt natural, as I am a big sister to three “little” girls and many cousins and was homesick while traveling the world for years.

Hanalei reminded me of home, and it was a heartwarming feeling. But there was something more than just nostalgia in our connection.

The truth is, from the very first time we met when she was only 8, it was clear that this young person was special. Her passion for making a positive difference in the world was evident in her unwavering determination and boundless energy. Despite her tender age, she possessed a maturity beyond her years and a heart full of empathy and compassion.
*And just like that, my life was changed forever.*

That little trip to Bali, that was supposed to be a few weeks long and was just a pit stop from Sri Lanka to Australia, end up becoming my first real stop in years of traveling and Bali became home.

Eventually moved in with the Swans and Hanalei truly became like a little sister.

After spending nearly a year in Bali, living an incredible life and being privileged enough to reside with the adventurous Swan family, who had been traveling the world for years, including young Hanalei who had already lived in numerous countries and visited all continents (except Antarctica) by the age of 8, it was time for me to continue my own journey and head to Australia and New Zealand.

Despite moving on, Hanalei, the Swans, and I stayed in touch. So, I was deeply touched when Rhonda, Hanalei's mom, invited me back to Bali a couple of years later. This time, it was to live with them again, collaborate on a book together, and provide coaching and mentorship to Hanalei, who had already achieved remarkable success in her business and personal brand at the tender age of 12.

Over the years, I have witnessed her take on various social and environmental issues with unwavering commitment. She has tirelessly advocated for causes she believes in, from fighting against climate change and advocating for social justice to raising awareness about mental health and animal rights. Her advocacy work has been truly awe-inspiring, and she has galvanized her peers and community to take action and create meaningful change. Been privileged to travel with her and see her shining on big stages seeing her melting hearts and waking up minds all over the world.

But it's not just her advocacy that makes her exceptional. She has a natural ability to connect with others and inspire them to be their best selves. Her kind words, warm presence, and genuine care for others have touched the lives of countless people, including mine. She has a unique ability to make everyone around her feel seen, heard, and valued.

Today, on her 16th birthday, I want to take a moment to celebrate her and acknowledge her incredible impact on the world.

Not only is Hanalei an advocate for change, but she is also an incredibly talented artist. Her creativity knows no bounds, and her artwork is a testament to her unique perspective and deep understanding of the world around her.

Her designs are innovative, pushing the boundaries of conventional art and pushing the envelope of what is possible. Her artwork is not only visually stunning, but it also carries a powerful message, shedding light on important social issues and sparking meaningful conversations.
